Article Summary: List of National Parks by State
Did you know there are more than 400 national parks in America? In fact, as of this posting, there are 429!
The National Park Service manages more than the National Parks you’ve heard of, like Yosemite and Yellowstone. There are also national monuments, national historical parks, national battlefields, national seashores, and more. I bet you’ve heard of some of them, too, like the Statue of Liberty or Gettysburg.
Below is a list of all 429 national parks by state as well as the 63 National Parks by state. We’ll also dive into frequently asked questions, maps, and more.

NOTE: In this guide, we’ll refer to the 429 national park sites as national parks (all lowercase) and the 63 National Parks as National Parks (capitalized).

4 Quick Tips for Visiting National Parks in Every State
1. Leave No Trace
When visiting our national parks and public lands, please practice Leave No Trace principles. Plan ahead, choose durable surfaces for camping or hiking, dispose of all waste properly, leave everything you find, minimize campfire impacts, respect wildlife, and be considerate of other park visitors.
2. Save Money with a National Parks Pass
In order to save money, I would recommend purchasing aย national parks pass. These cost $80 and are valid for a full calendar year (from the date of purchase) at all public lands in the United States. After you visit 3 national parks, itโll have paid for itself. It also makes a great gift for national park enthusiasts! Learn more about park entry fees.
3. Commemorate Your Visits
By using things like national park scratch-off maps or stamping your national park passport book, you can remember your national park trips for the rest of your life. Impress all your friends by displaying your journey across America proudly!
4. Plan Ahead
Did you know that each national park and national park site has an official website? On that page, there’s a nifty little button on the top right that says “alerts”. You can click that to learn all about current conditions in the parks you’d like to visit including road closures and weather notices.
The National Park Service also has a great app you can download prior to your trip. Additionally, you can use resources like The Parks Expert and guidebooks to plan your trip. Here are some of our favorite national park books!
